Happy Slayer Day!

Slayerg

On this holiest of days, on 6/6/16, we bow our heads in reverence and prepare to head bang to our favorite Slayer Albums.

Since their 1986 album “Reign in Blood,” Slayer has come to epitomize Satanic, speed metal as a genre. Reign in Blood is also one of the most influential metal albums of all time.

What are the best ways to celebrate Slayer Day (according to the National Day of Slayer Site)?

  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car
  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
  • Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
  • Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

And do NOT use headphones. The goal is for everyone to know that today is Slayer Day.

Here are some great songs to start with:

Ways to Celebrate the Autumn Equinox

189367_292891227491010_1460608972_n

Autumn is a magical time of year. Not because of Pumpkin Spice lattes and the eagerly awaited release of the last Hunger Games movie…but that’s exciting too. Fall is a time when the natural world begins to transition towards death. The leaves are falling from the trees, a chill grips the air, animals begin collecting food for the winter, and the harvest is winding down (not that many of us are farmers anymore, but I guess this could be a metaphorical point as well). Most of all though, it’s a time for gratitude, a time to appreciate the fruits of your labor. (See that…I made the metaphor work, ;-D)

Gratitude is perhaps one of the most important parts of any spiritual practice. A lot of people like to think religion is about getting God/The Gods to give them stuff. But this is not so. Gratitude for what you already have results in much more happiness than focusing on your wants. And more often than not, when we take the time to appreciate what we have, we realize that we are pretty lucky. So if there is one thing you can do to celebrate the coming fall, it’s to think of all the things/people in your life that you are grateful for.

Spain Becomes First Country to Rely on Wind as Top Electricity Resource

In Spain the Winds of Change Are Coming

wind

Read Article Source Here (Spanish Wind Association)

¡Muy bien! I take my non-existent hat off to Spain. In 2013, Spain made history by being the first country to use wind as a primary source of electricity. Wind covered 20.9% of the power demand, compared to the 20.8% that was powered by nuclear energy. According to the Spanish Wind Association (the AEE), this was enough energy to power 15.5 million houses – 90% of the total.

What direction will the winds blow for Spain’s proverbial energy future in the years to come? It is not certain. Apparently there could be some government reforms in Spain that would have an unfair impact on the wind sector this year – which could discourage investments.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Spain. !Buena suerte mis amigos españoles!

Top Norse Blogs of 2013

My personal vote of that which I deem awesome.

The blogs below are the ones I found the must useful in 2013 as resources for learning about topics related to heathenry/asatru. I raise my glass to you and hope for an equally awesome 2014.

The Norse Mythology Blog

A Norse blog hosted by a Religion and Mythology professor. Last year, this blog was best known for kicking off one of the first major attempts to do a worldwide Heathen Census. In addition to having insightful information on the history and culture of the Old Norse people, this blog also supplies many interactive tools for the public such as art contests and the aforementioned census.

An Asatru Blog

This is one of the blogs I see cited the most when I look around different Heathen Forums on the internet. In addition to having much interesting articles about Norse history and culture, there is also a lot of commentary on here about trends among modern Heathens and internet groups.

The Asatru Community

This blog offers a wealth of information about key tenants of Asatru today, as well as community outreach.

Your Weekly Dose of Norse Mythology

A simple, but informative blog on Norse History and Lore.
