Vikings and Native Americans


History may paint a violent picture of the Vikings.

But there is evidence that they may have been peacefully trading with Native Americans

for hundreds of years.

All without driving them to extinction in fact!

  2. Hundreds of Years?! Holy crap, I never even dreamed that.

    I once saw a program that said the Vikings died on Greenland because they were too racist to trade with the natives for what they needed. I always thought that an odd assumption considering they traded with everyone else. No one ever suggested it was the Greenland Natives who were the racists.

    This just goes to show, my ancestors didn’t care a whit about “race.” 😀

    • I guess it depends on the particular viking. I imagine some people might have been more racist than others – just like people today. But yeah, for the most part they traded all over the place. I’ve heard stories about Buddha statues unearthed in Viking Settlements.
